Eat Your Greens!

This week marks the final week of our indoor farmers' market. It also marks the first signs of Spring. We will be celebrating both this weekend and hope to see all of your wonderful faces there to celebrate with us. Sampling vendor food, raffle draw and enjoying the warmth of the sunshine pouring into the upstairs mezzanine will be just a few of the beautiful things happening this weekend-Saturday March 30th.

 

Spinach is Everywhere

Tis the season where all the early, cold hardy crops are coming in strong. How many different ways can you use spinach? For the locavores (way of eating based on only locally sourced foods) out there we’ve got a few tips!

  1. Wilt spinach into your morning eggs
  2. Saute it with butter and garlic for the perfect side dish
  3. Makes the perfect addition to pasta sauce
  4. Blend it up and hide it in your morning smoothies
  5. Eat it fresh with your favourite salad dressing, goat cheese and toasted nuts
  6. Pureed spinach soup is probably the prettiest way to celebrate spring

Greening up the Market

This past week our vendors got together for their yearly meeting. One thing that dominated the discussion was how to reduce single use plastics at the market. We had lots of ideas and will be looking into new ways to do this. 

So far…

  1. We are in the process of eliminating disposable dishes in our cooking class
  2. Many of our vendors are happy to fill your reusable bags and containers for you. 
  3. Sending our recycle to be properly sorted and prevent it from going to the landfill. 

Remember, buying direct from your producer always eliminates waste.
