National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and Orange Shirt Day.
As we don our orange shirts, let us remember that today is so much more than what we wear and the words we write.
It is what we do and have done; it is the actions we take now, the actions we have taken in the past, and the actions we commit to taking in the future for true reconciliation and true recompense for Canada’s violence against Indigenous peoples.
Let’s make sure these orange shirts spark a conversation about our part in this nation’s story, and about the thousands of children whose stories were cut short or forever altered.
Thank you to Atlohsa and artist Hawlii Pichette for these beautiful orange shirts. It has been a privilege to have Atlohsa at the Market for the past month and be surrounded by such a strong group of women. We have been honoured to learn from them and internalize their stories. Thank you! 🧡🧡🧡
It is THAT time of year. I’ve been pulling my socks on and cleaning my boots in preparation for colder weather – let’s help our friends be prepared as well!
This year, 519Pursuit is hoping to collect 75,000 pairs of socks for our friends facing homelessness. We were able to raise nearly 60,000 last year, so I am certain London can reach this goal!
Volunteers from 519Pursuit will be at Market every Thursday and Saturday in October starting this coming Saturday, accepting donations for socks and speaking with you about their initiative! We will also have a donation center between the Talbot Street doors starting Friday, October 1st.
How many socks do you think the Market can raise? I’m hoping we can put a solid dent in London’s goal!
These are the socks we are accepting:
Please reach out if you have any questions!
Last week’s cooking class was a success! Thank you to everyone who came out in the rain! Chef Anna Carroll taught two recipes: a Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese, and a Fall Turkey and Vegetable Pasta. Did you know that you can put an entire squash in the oven and cook it? Without cutting it open and seasoning it? How rad! (And super convenient!)
This week, we have Chef Ankita Vaidya teaching a class! She will be making a Veg/Vegan Bahn Mi Sandwich with Black Bean Pate! This is sure to be an exciting class. Remember, they start at 5pm and include free samples!
Thank you to everyone who donated for our Fresh Food Drive! We were able to gather 118 pounds of fresh food for the London Food Bank! You are all incredible.
We are hoping to host another Fresh Food Drive in October, so stay tuned for a date.
You may know that one of our vendors, Becky Ellis from Entangled Roots, is also a doctor and professor! Along with Becky, we are hosting some of her students this Saturday and next Saturday for a tour of the Farmers’ Market and a meet and greet with our farmers!
This means, though, that Becky will be closing her stall at 11am on October 2nd and 9th. You will still be able to shop from Becky from 8-11am so make sure to stop by early!
We are so excited about this opportunity. Preparing the next generation for a sustainable future means sharing knowledge about local food systems and small farming! We believe Farmers’ Markets are a huge part of that and can’t wait to share our love for them with more London friends.
This is the list, folks! See who you can find at the Farmers’ Market this Thursday, September 30th from 4-7pm! Click on their names to find information on pre-orders and to learn more about their farms and businesses!
