CHEERS TO SUMMER

A huge shoutout to London for bringing incredible energy and excitement to the Market this this past weekend! If you couldn't make it to the Jerk Fest, here's a recap. Picture this: just ten minutes before the festival officially kicked off on Saturday, there was already a buzzing crowd forming at the vendor booths, eagerly waiting to dive into the mouthwatering delights from each vendor. And let me tell you, the festival wasn't just about the food; it was a full-blown fusion of electrifying music, delicious bites, and non-stop party vibes that kept everyone grooving through both days. The very first JJ Jerk Fest was an absolute triumph and a true blast of an event!
Now, let's talk weekends. Imagine spending a serene Saturday morning at our farmers market, where soothing tunes set the tone, fresh produce with vibrant colours, and vendors greet you with smiles that light up the day. It's like stepping into a paradise of positive vibes and delightful discoveries that make Saturday mornings easy.
We sadly said goodbye to our Tuesday evening Farmers and Artisan Market. You will still be able to look forward to our Saturday morning Farmers Market from 8 am to 1 pm.
Now, buckle up because this week is bursting with excitement! Tomorrow, Friday, kicks off the Forest City Fusion Festival at 5 pm, and the celebration continues until 10 pm. And guess what? The party continues on Friday and Saturday, from 2 pm to 11 pm - support our local artists and soak in all the festivities.
Looking ahead, we've got a treat for you: Get ready for the Taco Fest, happening on the last weekend of August, the 25th, 26th, and 27th. Let's give summer the send-off it deserves: with a belly full of tantalizing tacos and the company of friends, all topped off with a refreshing sip of beer. It's the ultimate recipe for a memorable farewell to the season!

VENDOR HIGHLIGHT

Always happy to see you back; this is our fifth installment of Vendor Highlights, where we dive in and explore a different vendor each week, allowing you to learn more about them and discover their story and some hidden gems.

Praneeta, the heart behind Adorn by Pree, found solace and passion in crafting polymer jewelry through an unexpected turn of events. In 2020, facing the daunting diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer, life took a different course. Needing to step away from her regular job, Praneeta was looking for something to keep her mind busy during this scary time. During this period of anticipation and change, she wandered into a Michaels craft store.

Among the aisles of supplies, polymer clay beckoned to her, offering a way to fill her time and mind. With a leap of faith, she bought some clay and created her very first piece: pink and black cow print earrings. Little did she know this small spark would ignite an enduring passion within her.

With a desire to share her creations, Praneeta ventured into the online realm, establishing her shop and seeking new avenues. The year 2022 saw her presence bloom through a pop-up table at the Market; she found her place within the market community. As fate would have it, a permanent space opened up in May 2023, the growth from pop-up to her own space was an easy choice; she wanted to be in the Market that she has come to love.

She believes what sets this Market apart is not just the building or products; the camaraderie, the sense of belonging, and the gentle support that envelops everyone. Praneeta’s journey has been one of courage and endurance. A little over a month ago, she resumed chemotherapy, she faces this battle with remarkable resilience. The days when strength wanes are met with the helping hands of the Market community and the unwavering support of the Market administrators.

Amid life’s storms, she continues to pour her soul into her shop, creating pieces that echo her heart. Through the highs and lows, Praneeta’s passion remains a constant flame. Her shop stands not just as a collection of jewelry but as a testament to her unyielding passion. Every piece she creates has a touch of her warmth and a whisper of her journey.

Vendor highlights are all about shining a spotlight on the heart and soul of each vendor and learning more about the who, the what and the why around their story. If you’ve enjoyed this journey, join us again next week for another vendor and a new highlight as we continue celebrating the outstanding contributors that make our Market a genuinely magical place.

Market vendors will sell delicious and diverse food and drinks.

2023 is the 5th year of the festival, which is designed as an opportunity for Londoners to discover and build connections with neighbours who have deep cultural roots and have come from all over the world to make London their home.

“With the designation of London as Canada’s first UNESCO City of Music, it is time to recognize and celebrate the incredible talent in our community. The Simple Reflections Festival at Covent Garden Market removes barriers for emerging artists, including young people, who are the future of our local art and culture scene” – Simple Reflections for Artists Founder Dario Novoa.

Each performer at the festival is a member of the Simple Reflections for Artists Collective, which was created to remove barriers for up-and-coming local artists to showcase their talents. Members of the Collective range from high-profile global musicians to visual and performing artists who have developed their skills in Canada. Many members of the Collective were nominated for the Forest City London Music Awards (FCLMA) this year, including the Collective Founder, Dario Novoa.

“Simple Reflections has quickly become a vital event for our community.  It brings people together and offers a snapshot into the world of many London artists.  At the same time, it stitches together multiple arts disciplines.” Mario Circelli, Founder and Chair of the FCLMA.
