The Thinking Caps are a fun, interactive and entertaining family friendly rock ‘n roll band, hailing from London, Ontario and will be performing at our Halloween Boo-Bash on Sunday, October 27th 12pm-3pm.
Jay Rutherford and Carl Welch have known each other for over 25 years. Rutherford has played guitar in many rock bands over the years and is a trained engineer who received his Audio Engineering Technology diploma from OIART, many years ago. Welch has a Jazz Performance honours diploma and has been an integral part of bands like Canary Mine and the international touring act, Doghouse Rose.
Years ago, Rutherford wrote the songs on The Thinking Caps’ debut album, Be Yourself, for his two young children who are now teenagers. Years later he thought he would bring these songs to a broader audience. He reached out to Welch, a father of triplet boys, who was immediately on board. The Thinking Caps were born! Adding Eric Roelofsen, a Music Industry Arts graduate from Fanshawe College on bass was exactly what was needed to round out the group. Roelofsen has played in the London music scene for years, in a wide range of genres for many different bands.
The trio released their debut album, Be Yourself, on April 11, 2019. With catchy, feel-good songs it wasn’t long before singles from the album were being recognized on many children’s music radio shows such as Radio Active Kids, The Saturday Morning Cereal Bowl and Pop Can Radio, to name a few. They were also featured on the CBC London morning show, London Morning, and had the opportunity to showcase at the 2019 Folk Music Ontario conference in Toronto, Ontario. Soon, The Thinking Caps were bringing their family friendly rock ‘n roll show to many events ranging from small gatherings to larger festivals including the 2020 New Year’s Eve concert in London, Ontario where they entertained a crowd of over 4000 people!
The Thinking Caps continue to produce fun, catchy songs for the young and the young at heart and also create clever and silly videos to promote the events where they perform.
