LIVE MUSIC ON THE ROTARY SQUARE

The AIYOYÔ Project will be performing this Saturday, September 17th from 8:30am to 10:30am.

AIYOYÔ invites us to live the sensations and emotions of an intense and unique musical experience! The Brazilian duo, composed by the pianist Hevaldo Souza, and the singer and percussionist Caroline Blumer, and their guests, bring to the stage a diverse repertoire of Brazilian Music, Samba, Choro, Jazz, Bossa, Blues, Soul, and Rock . The audience will recognize their favorite songs presented in special versions with generous hints of improvisation and creativity!​

 

Hevaldo Souza (Fox) 

Brazilian pianist, composer, arranger, and music producer. He performed beside several Brazilian artists. Conducted the musical arrangements and production of the Paulo Apóstolo Novel Soundtrack, winner of prizes in Germany, Spain, Russia and Portugal, screened by Brazilian TV Século XXI. He was a musical director and arranger of many Musical Theatre Brazilian productions such as “Godspell”, “The Best Of Musicals”, “Ópera do Malandro” (Chico Buarque), “Notre Dame de Paris”, “Man of La Mancha” and others. He was musical director and pianist of the Show “Encuentro” with repertoire of Jazz, Chamber Music and Brazilian Music, presented in Duo with the jazz singer Caroline Blumer. He was also director of the audio production company Casulo Music (Brazil). Recently, in Canada, besides his work with Aiyoyô project as pianist and producer, Fox has been performing with the South African jazz singer Lorraine Klaasen, Juno Award winner 2013 and nominee in 2017.

 

Caroline Blumer 

Brazilian jazz singer, musician, composer, and music educator. Caroline participated as soloist of the “Conciertos de Navidad” in the cities of Havana and Matanzas, Cuba, accompanied by the Soloists Symphony Orchestra of Havana and the Brasilia Symphony Orchestra (OCBrass). She was vocal coach and musical director in several Musical Theater plays in Brazil, among the most recent are The Lion King and The Man of La Mancha. She also performed the Show “Encuentro” in partnership with the pianist Hevaldo Souza singing and playing a repertoire of Jazz, Chamber Music and Brazilian Music. As music educator and researcher, she is interested in music teaching for individuals with disabilities, especially to people on the Autistic Spectrum. After ten years developing an inclusive musical work at  SER Institute, São Paulo, Brazil, she decided to continue her studies in Canada.  Besides, her work with Aiyoyô project, Caroline is current a Ph.D. candidate in Music Education at the University of Western Ontario (UWO).

 

Rob Larose 

Rob Larose studied classical percussion at the University of Western Ontario, jazz drumming with Roger Flock at Humber College, and Latin percussion with Memo Acevado and Rick Lazar in Toronto. For over 25 years Rob has been a familiar fixture around London performing with numerous groups including: Orchestra London, London Pro Musica Chorus, new age jazz group The Antler River Project, salsa band Herencia Latina, The Blue Water Big Band, Celtic Shift, and funk band FunkINC!! For the past 10 years Rob has been touring throughout Canada and the U.S. with the Stratford based celtic fusion group Rant Maggie Rant.

In music theatre Rob has been in ‘the pit’ for “Annie”, “Joseph”, “Songs for a New World”, “In the Heights” and many more. Most recently Rob has been kept busy as part of the pit orchestra for Mamma Mia, Titanic and Mary Poppins at the Grand Theatre in London, ON.

As an educator Rob runs a private percussion studio in London and has been guest clinician for the Ontario Music Educators Association, The Metro Toronto School board and an adjudicator for jazz and percussion performances in Canada and the U.S. Rob was percussion faculty of the National Music Camp of Canada from 1995-1999 and has written a book on Latin Percussion techniques.

 

LIVE MUSIC ON THE ROTARY SQUARE

Londomble will be performing this Saturday, September 17th from 11am to 1pm.

Londomblé consists of Charles Burnetts on vocals and percussion and Sergio Borquez on classical Spanish guitar. This highly versatile duo cover many musical genres, focusing on a laid-back, tropical vibe. Musical genres include Flamenco, Jazz, Salsa, Pop, Bossa Nova, RnB and Andean music. Check out the next slide for more info on each musician.

 

Charles Burnetts

Charles, originally from London, UK, is trained in Latin and contemporary percussion styles by master New York City conguero Johnny Conga, and has further training in North and South Indian percussion. He’s played for various groups in and around London.

 

Sergio Borquez

Sergio has over 35 years of experience, and has played in countries including Chile, Argentina and Spain. He was a touring musician in Spain for various artists.

SATURDAY COOKING CLASS

This Saturday, join us in the market kitchen for our cooking class hosted by Melanie Amadasun. Melanie will be demonstrating how to make Nigerian Fried Rice with Shrimp & Fried Plantain.

The food banks are experiencing increased demand due to inflation. If you are able to, we are asking attendees to bring a donation for the London Food Bank to the cooking classes this month. It would be greatly appreciated!

LINE DANCING WITH DEBBIE

This Saturday, September 17th Deborah O’Hara will be hosting a Flash Mob Style Line Dance Event upstairs in the Mezzanine.

 

It so exhilarating to have London, start to open up again after such a long hiatus. It will be wonderful to bring us back together to DANCE.  Debbie hopes you can join her and have some fun!!!! Below is the dances she will do and there will also be a 1/2 hour lesson for beginners nobody at any level will be left out. And at the end some open dances.
