Out Like a Lion in Like a Lamb

Well the last couple days of March were some for the books! Snow, below zero temperatures, and few frustrated farmers who couldn't help but be enamoured by how pretty their properties looked dusted in sparkly white snow. The return of fresh produce to the market last week was a total treat and disappeared quickly!. Thank you to everyone who came out this past weekend to celebrate the end of the winter season with us. A special congratulations goes out to our raffle winner Maddy S. who got to take home a bag full of goodies from our vendors. To all our new newsletter followers, hello and welcome.

Resolutions for April

April is a hard time of year for consumers and producers alike. Many of the farmers’ storage crops have run out and all the new fresh crops are slowly coming in, to be ready in full force for May. We are lucky to have a few farmers in our London area that are able to have produce all year round, as well as our meat farmers who freeze and store food for us. The question for the locavore’s out there is this: How to prepare for April?

It’s this month that most of us begin to promise ourselves the following resolutions:

  1. This year I’m going to buy a bunch of strawberries and freeze them
  2. This year, I really am going to try and stock up on preserves and tomato sauces from my farmers
  3. This year I really need to buy more summer pesto to have the fresh taste of herbs all year round!

And so the list goes. Let’s make a pact right now, to remind each other and ourselves throughout the summer that THIS IS THE YEAR we will follow through on our desires to preserve the taste of fresh local food aaaall the way through April!
