Today and every day, we should be celebrating the planet we all call home. Earth Day is a great time to start planning the steps you can take in your daily practice to become more informed and involved in bettering our environment. Consider adding pollinator-friendly plants to your garden, picking up litter while you’re out for a hike, or researching an environmental cause that speaks to you. Here are a few Market-themed suggestions:

• • Bring reusable shopping bags to reduce the accumulation of plastic and single-use bags 
  • Buy in season: emissions associated with long-distance transport and food storage can be avoided by purchasing produce that’s grown right here in our community
  • Reduce food waste: shop with a list to avoid buying more than you can realistically use. Food waste is a huge contributor to environmental harm, generating greenhouse gas emissions and wasting large amounts of resources like freshwater
  • Walk whenever possible: the Market is centrally located and makes a great destination for a walk! Leave your car and its emissions at home once in a while, and don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers!

Every weekend for the rest of April, we’ll have live jazz performers upstairs in the mezzanine from 12-1:30pm. Perfect for a lunch break on a Friday afternoon, or to enjoy with friends and family on the weekend: grab yourself a cup of tea or coffee and lend an ear to our local performers!

Every Sunday here at the market, we host Sampling Sundays, a chance to try delicious bites from different vendors. Whether it’s your first time tasting or a reminder of how good it really is, it’s the perfect way to explore what’s local and tasty!
