Cooking Demos are Back!

Happy Thursday, friends! We had to cancel our Thursday Evening Market last week due to the forecast calling for heavy thunderstorms. It's never fun to have to cancel a market and we haven't had to do that in years, but we think it was for the best. We're really hoping for decent weather tonight as we have an exiting market planned! We are having our first cooking demonstration of 2021 tonight, and all of last week's planned festivities are happening as well! Additionally, Museum London's walking tours are starting this week (more on that below) and the Columbian Festival is happening as well as a pop-up festival of sorts! More on that below too. With Step 3 of Ontario's re-opening plan happening soon, we can't wait to bring more London Love your way. What is something you miss about the Farmers' Market that we had to cancel last year? Let us know because we're bound to be missing it, too! All in good time.

Cooking Demonstrations!

We’ve gone over a year without cooking demonstrations and it’s finally time to bring them back – starting TONIGHT!

Kicking things off is Chef Cindy from Elgin Harvest. You’ve had her wood-fired pizzas and pastas and pretzels, now it’s time to watch the process! Starting at 5pm, Cindy will be leading a demonstration on the Outdoor Square (not in the kitchen!), showing how her wood-fired pizzas come together.

We used to have our Cooking Demonstrations on Saturdays only, but we’re tentatively trying Thursdays this year as there is more opportunity to space out. Stay tuned! Also, as we are still in Step 2, we only have a max of 25 seats open, so come on time if you want the best spot! Tasting will be involved, of course.

Most importantly, it’s free! Do your shopping, learn something new, and enjoy a local beer and live music. We can’t wait to see you! Tomorrow, 4-7.

THURSDAY EVENING CULTURE WALKS AT THE MARKET

Let’s have some fun, London! Museum London has created two mysterious and tantalizing new downtown culture walks for you because they’re proud of this city! These walks start and end at the market, and include a drink ticket to the London Brewing Co. and downtown dollars to spend at the Farmers’ Market or any other downtown business.

When: Thursdays, July 15 to August 26, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
Cost: $20 per person early bird rate by 4pm Monday the week of your walk, $25 per person Monday night to Thursday the week of your walk.

Includes:

  • Every ticket includes one free drink from the London Brewing Co. the same evening (non-alcoholic option available)
  • Each ticket comes with $20 in Downtown Dollars, use them like cash at participating businesses

Pre-registration required! See more info here!

What to Look Out For:

Here’s some things to look out for at Market this week!

  • Sweet Corn! Heather Joyce will have sweet corn for the first time this season. The Corn Crib will be joining us soon as well. How quickly the seasons pass!
  • Snake Bite Creations is back this week. Find Natalie on Thursday AND Saturday with a wide variety of handmade naturally dyed creations.
  • Ellen (Orchard Hill Farm) will have red cabbage and tomatoes this week. Keep an eye out for blueberries as well!
  • Speaking of blueberries, Berrylicious Fruit Farm is back at market! We didn’t have a chance to announce that last week, but we are very excited about this news – they have blueberries, raspberries, elderberry items, baked goods, and more.
  • Sliders are here again! They have been for two weeks already, but we’ve failed to mention it, apologies. Dan comes out about 11 o’clock for lunch.
  • A reminder that Dave’s Beef & Lamb and Harvest Moon Trade Co. come to market every other week, so you will see them on the 24th!
  • Pretzels! Cindy from Elgin Harvest is now making pretzels for Thursday Eve markets. I’ve had the privilege of trying these, and you need to try them too!

Blueberry Sauce Recipe

Blueberries are in season! I’ve been enjoying them fresh (it’s like eating candy, but better!) but am a huge sucker for anything blueberry related. I especially love freezing them and then eating them with a spoon – it makes for a great summer treat and they *could* last much longer if I didn’t eat them all right away. Here’s an amazing blueberry sauce recipe you can make with any blueberries you have left over. It’s great on ice cream, pancakes, and even mixed with a BBQ sauce! (Trust us!) Click the link below.

COLOMBIAN GASTRONOMY FESTIVAL POP-UP EDITION

The sounds and tastes of Colombia are taking over the Market Block Dining District this weekend! Come down and enjoy the Fifth Colombian Gastronomy Festival- Pop-Up Edition – Food, music and drinks!

Enjoy the tastes of Colombia with 5 food vendors offering authentic cuisine! Top it off with a cold drink within the licensed area. DJ Renzo & Grupo Borolo (Vallenato Music) will be playing both Friday & Saturday night!
