Chef Anna Carroll from Growing Chefs will be joining us this Thursday at 5:30 (not 5 as per usual because of scheduling!), whipping up some delicious food! Chef Anna will also demonstrate and break down her blanching technique, a delicious way to enjoy all your Farmers’ Market fresh veggies!
Chef Anna graduated from Stratford Chefs School in 2018, where she further developed her passion for wholesome cuisine. At Growing Chefs, she is the Education Projects Chef Coordinator where she spends her time sharing her ideas, knowledge and passion for healthy fun food with our community. We are so excited to welcome her this Thursday and learn some new tips and tricks!
Thursday night we had our first cooking class of the season featuring Chef Cindy from Elgin Harvest! Chef Cindy brought her own wood-fire pizza oven, which she expertly navigated through our Market Lane despite weighing close to 7 TONS! During her class, Chef Cindy demonstrated how to shape dough for the perfect pizza crust using her homemade sourdough! Her expert tip is to let the dough sit in the fridge for the night, so that it loses some of its elasticity and is easier to shape and stretch. Chef Cindy cooked up four different pizzas: Magherita, Bison pepperoni with Garlic Scape pesto, Trout with a cream sauce, dill and spinach and a spicy chorizo pizza! Each only took about 2 minutes to cook in her wood-fire oven, which can reach up to 700 to 800 °F! If you missed out on Chef Cindy’s pizzas, not to worry! Chef Cindy and Elgin Harvest is at the Farmers’ Market every Thursday with fresh pretzels and Saturday with a variety of frozen wood-fire pizzas and fresh pastas.
Calling all young entrepreneurs!! If you are 16 years of age or younger and a budding entrepreneur, then the Covent Garden Farmers’ Market has an opportunity for you! During our Thursday evening Farmers’ Market, we will set aside a booth for young entrepreneurs to sell their goods and products. A table and tent will be provided, free of charge for the evening. Young entrepreneurs must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the market, 4 to 7PM. All goods and products must be created by the young entrepreneurs themselves and we encourage young entrepreneurs to take the lead in selling their goods. This is a great opportunity for you to showcase your entrepreneurial talent and to promote your business in the local community. If interested please contact our Farmers’ Market Manager Patricia at farmersmarket@coventmarket.com.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…Corn Season! Corn Crib, Thames River Melons and Joyce Farm will all be selling corn at this Saturday’s Farmers’ Market. At this time of year, I truly believe that South-Western Ontario is one of the best places to live with all of the delicious fresh produce and I have evidence to prove it! Did you know that Ontario grows 65% of all corn in Canada? Fresh sweet corn is truly great in any form, but a corn salsa is a fun side to any meal, especially a Taco Night!
This Saturday we are so thrilled to be hosting Pride London in celebration of the Pride London Festival! The Pride London Festival is a yearly festival that brings together all members of the London community to celebrate, empower and support the diverse LGBTQIA2+ members of our community!
Pride London Festival will be at the Saturday Farmers’ Market between 8am to 1pm. They will be featuring a Drag Queen Photo Booth, with one of London’s best queens. For a donation to the Chippewa of the Thames First Nations to support their community during a boil water advisory, you can snag a fabulous pic with a fabulous queen!
Pride London will also be selling exclusive pride merch, including delicious locally made lollipops and handing out Pride flags and stickers! They also are offering up the chance to win two tickets to Inside Out Toronto’s drive-in film festival at the Mustang Drive-In!
Gill Clelland, an Old East Village sidewalk chalk artist, will also be at the Market creating a special piece in celebration of Pride. Sidewalk chalk will be available for you to create your own message of Pride, bring the whole crew and show off your Pride! (Weather dependent.)
Let’s paint the town RAINBOW, London!
