Mircrogreens!

Happy Thursday! **Please stay tuned to our social media and website to confirm if tonight's Thursday evening Market will be canceled due to the rain predicted** We're back with our Thursday Eve Markets tonight and we can't wait to see you there! The vendor list is below and our musician will be Rick McGhie! Don't forget that local beer will be poured and fresh food will be available as well. You may have spotted our large occasion tent on the square in the past week. We are so excited to utilize it as part of our markets and it will be perfect to shield you from the sun as you pause to enjoy the evening. Speaking of sun, did you know that our vendors are happy to hold onto purchases for you as you shop? If you purchase a frozen pizza from Cindy and don't want it to completely defrost while you keep shopping or enjoy a snack, ask her to store it for you in her cooler, and pick it up at the end of market! The same goes for fresh pasta, meats, fresh veg and fruit, and other perishables that need to be kept cool/frozen. Of course, bringing a cooler or insulated bag is also a stellar idea! But we're here to serve and happy to help.

What to Look Out for this Week

Here’s a few things to look out for at the market this week:

~ Thames River Melons had raspberries and blueberries at market last Saturday! We were floored, and so happy! They will have more on Thursday and Saturday again this week.

~ Ellen (Orchard Hill Farm) will have crunchy new cabbage, cauliflower, red tropeana fresh onions, and a Broccoli & Potato soup. And did you see the cucumbers they had last weekend!? We’ll be sure to spot them again this coming Saturday!

~ Entangled Roots is back this week! They will have microgreens, herbs, peppers, raw honey, infused honey, salves, and more. After a short break, we can’t wait to see Becky again!

~ Tomatoes are almost in full swing! Sungold Market Garden and Joyce Farms both have fresh tomatoes at market already, and we’ll only see more as the weeks pass!

~ I spotted a lovely wine infused cheese on Monforte’s table this past weekend! I always knew that simply pairing a cheese with a glass of wine was not *enough wine. It seems like Ruth felt the same! Check it out this Saturday.

~ If my calculations are correct, this week is samosa week! Lorraine (Morsels) brings her samosas every other week, and did not have them last Saturday, so keep an eye out for them this coming weekend!

~ Eric’s Wood Bin is planning to be at market this Saturday! We have not seen them since last year, and we could not be more excited! Make sure to give them a warm welcome back!

~ Cindy (Elgin Harvest) will have fresh pretzels on Thursday Evening! These will pair well with a fresh mustard, or while enjoying a beer. Cindy’s been up to a lot lately – have you tried her fresh pastas? I’m in love with her flavoured paprika pasta!

~Sweet corn is coming SOON! I just received an email yesterday from The Corn Crib giving me a couple weeks notice before they come to market, so get ready!! (Can you believe the seasons are coming this quickly?)

Microgreens!

Entangled Roots is BACK at the Farmers’ Market this weekend, and will now have microgreens! Becky had a few the last time they were at market, and will continue to have them throughout the season. But what are microgreens?

Microgreens are the tiny seedlings of edible plants, somewhere between a sprout or a baby green! They are usually about 1-3 inches tall and are extremely flavourful, sometimes spicy and sometimes mild but always tasty; since their nutrition is concentrated in their tiny size, they are also super nutritious!

Microgreens can be used in many different ways and honestly, you can probably add them to anything and everything! Salads, soups, sandwiches, stir-fries, smoothies, juices, pasta, omelets, curries, on top of pizzas, and more!

While some microgreens are spicy such as radish and mustard, others are mild but extremely tasty such as sunflower and peas. Becky grows a few different varieties, so make sure to ask her which will be best for you and the dish you are planning to make!

Not sure where to start? Check out these three microgreens recipes we’ve uploaded to the website!

Produce Washing Station

Have you tried our produce washing station yet? Who can wait until they get home to enjoy their fresh berries, peas, and more!? We know we can’t!

Just head to our entrance table, grab a colander, rinse, and enjoy! Try it tomorrow evening at the Farmers’ Market!

Recipes!

Have you noticed the recipes on the entrance table? Emily has been putting together new recipes each market using seasonal produce available at the market!

The recipes include ingredients lists and instructions, as well as a list of items and where you can find them at the market! This makes your weekly shopping trip that much more fun and easy! This week’s recipes are a strawberry-basil shortcake, a cucumber and tomato salad and marinated zucchini, depending on the day. (I’m very excited about that last one!)
